Ok I got my first carpet which I announced on here! Love it! Well my ph has been low around 8.0 so I know that this needs to come up and lfs said to get a buffer. Well the first time adding it in shortly after a water change the carpet and my other anemones deflated. I thought maybe it was a little stress as I did a 20% change. So I just added another dose (directions say to do it daily) Well they immediatly deflated again! I am so angry this poor thing is stressed from being new then the a/c crapping and the tank temp went high and now this. I dont know what else to do!!! How can I get my ph up without harming them??? SOme advise please. I have tried aerating and fresh air. What else to try? I also told lfs that my alk is high and they its ok it will stabalize once the ph does. Are they correct? Or are the anemones acting to the high alk? Im so upset!!!

If I were you I would stop adding the buffer. A ph of 8 is pretty good. As long as your ph stays consistent leave it be. You can spend a lifetime chasing those perfect numbers. A couple things to try if you have not would be to hook an air line onto your skimmers air intake and pull in fresh air from outside. You could also buy the soda lime co2 absorbent and go that route. Also keep a reverse lighting schedule on your fuge if you have one. IMHO PH is not worth chasing. Just keep your salinity, temp, alk, stable and make sure you have sufficient lighting with bulbs that aren't old. You will be just fine.

You were doing better before the buffer from what I'm reading. Buffer will raise dkh more then Ph. Just keep dkh, calcium, magnesium in check and you'll be good.

Ph 8 is perfect ... Dnt raise it up with buffer... If u need to raise it up there r other ways to do it... Sk far leave it alone an let anemone settle in

What you really need to test and keep in the correct range is alkalinity and calcium.
