I thought the goal of a reefkeeper was to put as much electricity as close to saltwater without killing yourselfSaltwater and electricity. Do not combine

Lol, what they said.lol here we go again......
just dont boil, bake, chew, eat, manhandle zoas/palys and youll be fine lol
Lol, what they said.
Yes, it is potentially deadly.
Yes, I have had them in my tank for about 6 years now without any problems.
No, I have not fragged them. Or dried out rock that had them on it. Or tried to scrub them off rock. (That is often where the potentially deadly part comes in.)
Speaking of which,
1. Stick with the Zoe's. The palys are the ones that contain a higher concentration of the toxin.
2. NEVER place palys at the bottom of a large rock formation.
They will overgrow everything else on the planet including your expensive SPS and your LPS.
(Hmmm, Palys vs Galaxea or hydnophora anyone?)
We have 4 or 5 varieties of pallies and you either separate them on a separate piece of rock or you give them the top king spot on the rock work so they are sort of trapped up there.

So there is no other snail or crab that will kill me?
This was some guy and his family that were breathing the toxin while working with zoanthin.

And then there are dozens of other home Aquarist that describe poisoning by handling the coral.
If I'd known this was such a deadly hobby I would taken up rock climbing.
Apparently he was "cleaning" the zoas with hot tap water indoors. Every time I hear about palytoxin poisoning it's from people doing stuff they shouldn't have been in the first place. If you don't do crazy stuff like that you'll be OK.He had cleaned the coral using hot tap water in his basement sink.
Anything else deadly I need to know about?
LOL! What everyone said!!!! Never had a issue with toxin from zoas....got stuck by my urchin a few times....my fault..... no big deal....and yea I am a firm believer that Maroon clownfish are among the most dangerous in the hobby..... LOL.....that is why I no longer keep clowns.....and yes this hobby does have a way of draining your bank account in a hurry! [emoji23]Lol, 2 other things, A lot of reefers don't know the difference between Zoes and palys so expecting an emergency room physician to have a clue is pointless.
Cone snails have the potential to kill you but I don't know of a source for them. They are not very commonly for sale in the reefers world.
Also Stay away from blue ringed octopus from Australia.
Lion fish spines, scorpion fish spines.
Eel mouths, long spine urchins.
And some people would say Maroon clownfish.

This hobby is for the strong immune system people. There is a lot of stuff that can make you sick. The saltwater bacteria alone could be an issue to your biome.
Is that a thing? People getting bacterial infections from reef tanks?
