red slime is starting to over run my tank. i have tested my water and my phos 0,nitrites 0, nitrates 1. all my lights are new since march, i run a 180g with a 75g sump, i use a dart pump so i have a lot of flow plus i got 2 other pumps that range from 1200 to 2000gph for extra flow. i added gfo, carbon, and bio pellets to help with the issuw. i even changed my light timers so they go on later and turn off sooner, i even use ro/di water that tests at 0. i looks like its slowing down but its really hard to tell. what am i missing here that i cant get rid of this issue?

i used brightwells microbacter 7 when i had brown algae and red slime issues. it helped me. But i don't run GFO or biopellets. i have carbon tho.

my tank is a lot smaller than yours, all i did was water changes 10 gal two times a weeek almost 40% a change but it stoped it in two weeks...
just a thouhgt good luck

well one week i did a 80g wc and a week later i did a 40g and i think it slowed it down but still got the crap when i dont want it.

it's a mix zoos Lps one sps three fish
it's been running for four months, with water changes an a baster it stopped then my weekly changes it's not come back but now I got hair algy

my tanks is stocked with 2 tang, 4 clows, and 1 mangrin, corals are mostly LPS with zoas, polys, mushroom, and a few leathers.
skimmer is rated for 300g tank with a heavy bio load. have about 250lbs of LR

Not sure if this applies to you, but I had a red slime problem suddenly appear in my tank. I am good with weekly 10% water changes, cleaning my skimmer, and not over feeding. But I was over dosing trace elements. I miss read the bottle initially and was dosing ~50% more than I should. Once I realized this, and corrected, the slime has started to disappear. Of course, you can speed this up with large water changes, and I'm sure carbon will help, but the cause needs to be addressed, not the symptoms.

Turn the lights off for 3 days and it will go away. Did for me. I even put blankets around the glass so there was no light getting in from the room either. After the 3 days I cut the light cycle in half for a couple of days then resumed the normal cycle. What kind of lights are you running and for how long. On my 220 my main lights are 3X250w MH and I only run them 6-7 hours a day. The T5 blues run about 10 hours.

10&#37 What is this? Ive saw it posted before but didnt understand.

i really have no idea y im getting this stuff. i dont over feed. i target feed corals once or twice a week. and what ever gets away from the corals the clean up crew gets. i dont dose trace so thats not an issue on getting this crap. i upgraded from a 130 to the 180 with a 75 sump in feb. with this as an upgrade i dont have an issue with a cycle. the only thing i can think of that gave me this **** was the dry rock i put in. i only added 15lbs of rock and i cant see that amount giving be a issue this it this. being stupid i didnt cook the rock. i just added it cause it was mined and not from the ocean or an other tank. do you all think the dry rock could be the issue and should i of cooked it?

I would say no for the base rock. I know for me when I had it I believe it was from extra nutrients in the water. I didn't think I was over feeding and I had a pretty good cleanup crew but I still has the red slime. I cut back on feeding some and used Chemiclean Red Slime Remover. Two days later it was almost gone so I dosed the chemical again, just as my LFS suggested. Two more days went by and then I did a water change. That's been many months ago and I haven't seen it since.

How long have you had those pellets running? And which brand is it? I've read about others including myself that had red slime while running pellets or carbon dosing.

i guess i will have to look at my feeding a little more. as for the pellets they are from BRS. i have had them running for about a month. i had the red silm before i started using them. i dont want to shut my lights off but i just might have to.

Dude, forget the lights... I really think you should use that red slime remover. I works great and didn't harm any of my corals or fish. Can anyone else chime in on this product ??
