Redo Aquascaping?

Hello all

I have had my tank running for about 2 months and really dislike my aqua scape. I have a bunch of marine pure running in the back of my aio and I’m wondering what is the best way to do this? I want to add a bunch more rock too. Do I rebuild my Aquascaping outside the tank or try to somehow do it inside. I have 4 fish and a couple coral. As well as some cuc.


Any ideas ?

I'm not the most experienced person here but I would rebuild your aquascape outside of your tank. That way if something falls in the process your glass doesn't get broken.

Oh definitely. But will that mess up my tank bacteria ?

I'm not sure. I would think it would depend on how long you're planning on keeping them out of water.

I re-scape....and mess around with rock formation in all my tanks....all the time. I have even pulled all of the rock out and layed it out and re-epoxied everything....and re-inserted it all back into the tank.... depending on corals and any other life on the rock...that may be tough to do.... In those cases.... I just re-scape in the tank....

one caveat... I have bigger tanks. If you have a smaller AIO.... it may be more disruptive... and if you add a lot of new or remove a lot of the established....etc.. you could throw off your tank causing a mini cycle.... until your tank settles....

A rough guideline would be it's okay to have your rock exposed to air for about 1 hour without any die off. Corals would depend on the type but most you could throw a wet paper towel over them and they'd be fine for a while. I would try and keep the rock damp if you are doing it outside of the tank either with paper towels, regular towels or just misting it.

Over the years I've redone my aquascapes many times and never had a die off issue. If you can't finish in a reasonable time you can always return the rock to the tank and finish later. In a 2 month old tank this is less of a concern but you should still be aware of stirring up detritus and anything else trapped under the rock / sand.

Hello, is there any problem with siliconing a piece of acrylic to the bottom of dead rock when adding it to a tank, be it a 2.5 or a 200 gallon tank. Sometimes the 'pleasing' side of a piece of dead coral I want to add is not very flat, but I do not want to hack a15 lb piece of rock or larger, to get it in the position I want it. (I want a base to it.(Will be putting it in first of course, b4 the sand) I have a pic, but I hope the question makes sense. I've decided one of my tanks will be Fowlr, the other mixed etc. Not in a hurry for the answer but would appreciate all answers by folks. Hope this makes sense.

No problem with doing that and its a great idea. Ive never used silicone to secure rocks to acrylic but as long as it holds you wont have any problems. My only concern is if it would hold. You might get away with that single piece but as you add rock on top in might let loose. Just something to think about.
