Hello!

So, I have a reef octopus varios and it comes with the auto shut off with the float switch.

I dont know where to put it. I had it in my return pump section but lets say the water drops then my auto top off sensor will kick on. So that would not work.

Should I put it in the overflow area so if the overflow gets clogged it will stop my tank form overflowing? I almost just had that happen when my filter shock got so clogged it almost overflowed. My ato auto timer shut if off thankfully!

It should go in the return section where your return pump is pulling from. It's meant to keep the pump from running dry and damaging it.

ATO float switch in the return section is the correct place for it, as you know, but if the system gets a leak, the ATO would run until dry anyway.

A more redundant way to deal with this would be to have a electronic float switch in your ATO reservoir. It could shutoff the ATO pump if the reservoir water level got too low. Come to think of it, I need one. Lol

A leak detector would be another way to alert you of a problem, but would require a controller to do so like the Apex.

Thanks for the info! Im going to add that float switch back to the return side.

Also last week my ATO kept running last week due to my filter shock area getting clogged. What you think if I put the Tunze float shut off in my overflow area were my shock is. So if it gets clogged again and fills up then the auto switch will shut off on that side? Because that side filled up vs my skimmer section. If that makes sense. lol
