Refugium and sump

Are refugium and sumps sold together as a set or do I have to try and figure all this out and assemble it myself? I'd be so lost if I did.

Usually you buy a simp all assembled or your LFS might be able to make one for you. And you can buy it with a refugium section or have the LFS add a fuge section.

all of the above, it's about what you want. They sell sumps with or without refugium sections. Another popular option is making your own so that you can have everything exactly as you want it. Lastly, if you can't find one and don't want to build your own, you can improvise and add it somewhere else, or add one on in a tank that overflows into it.
