Refugium Critters?

image.jpeg

@Frankdigiovanna first welcome to reef2reef! I noticed that was your first post! Beautiful refugium, do you happen to keep any snails, crabs, or other in there?
no nothing I need the stuff to grow in there the sump is just a fillter. My fish are big so the more growth I have in the sump the better my unicorn Tang is 14" long my naso tangs are 12" so the bio load is a lot my sump and protein skimmer are working hard..lol

I love that lobster! Is it reef safe and does it happen to serve any cleanup purpose besides what would probably end up being my favorite tank/sump resident?
I purchased him
After he had spent 2yrs in a reefers DT & killed 6 fish
Hence why he's a dump critter
He's gorgeous and very happy in there
I wouldn't suggest DT

I had the same question for my LFS and they said they shake out the chaeto in the DT. Some might worry that you'd just have chaeto growing in the DT but in my case my foxface and yellow tang nail any tiny pieces that happen to get away.
I shake it out while still in the sump
Don't lose any goodies that way

I also keep a variety of inverts in my sump/refugium.
Short spine sea urchin, coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, variety of snails and hermit crabs.
I shake my chaeto before tossing it to remove pods as well.

I have been noticing that my urchins in the future eat the macro at a rate close to how fast it grows. I tend not to have to trim my as much before I added 3 urchins to my fuge.
