When the refugium is really full of chaeto, should I remove a small quantity?

I saw a YouTube video where the refugium was full and the tank crashed due to high nutrients from dead algae.

Yes. Trim your chato.
It keeps the flow clear and lest the plant grow better.

And fwiw, some folks claim the oddest causes for crashes.

As I recall the ideal is to only remove enough so that ONLY a small amount of it dies off. A small amount of it dying off has beneficial properties as I recall something about releasing sugars.

I believe on triton your not suppose to trim the chaeto. The die off is suppose to release sugars that feed your corals.
