RO Booster Pump Help!

Good Sunday Morning! I recently picked up an Aquatech 8800 for 200 GPD systems.

I currently have 45-60 PSI go through my 4 stage 150 GPD system without the pump. 4 TDS after it. Added a cartridge of DI yesterday, and completely burned through it in an 16 hour period.

Any, I added the pump and got it up to just under 100 PSI. However I timed my production to make 16 ounces, and it came out to only 15-20 seconds quicker compared to no pump. I was hoping for a greater boost than that. Has me questioning if it was even worth it lol.

Let me know if I should just be quiet and happy with my 4GPH system!

An increase of pressure will help with production time, usually only a small increase. If you're looking for a massive increase of GPH you'd probably be looking for a larger RO unit.

Also whats the MAWP on your unit? Most hobby RO units take 80psi max

Air water & ice units are even lower at 65psi.

To the op: you can always add another membrane to increase production.

The added pressure helps with membrane efficiency, it does a better job with rejection.

What I'm not understanding, is how you have 4 tds out of the membrane and burned through an entire cartridge of mix bed di. Are you on well water?

Yes. There are a few examples to help remove c02.

I've learned the hard way that not all membranes are made the same. Many swear by dow or dupont, but my experience is that they fall short. I've landed on spectrapure membranes because their rejection ratio and rate seem to be closer to advertised than any other.

But before you start throwing money at it, you might want to look at the flow restrictor and make sure it's the right one for the 150g membrane. You have to pair the membrane with the right restrictor.

How old is the membrane? Does it have a way to flush the membrane? Is it manual or automatic.

150gdp is under perfect conditions. My guess is that your water is below the temperature to see that yield, somewhere around 76 degrees. Yield is reduced a certain percentage for every degree below optimum.
