185 Views and 3 post.. I did realize it sucked that bad :)

LOL!! Not that bad. Might be better if you said something about the tank, and let people know that you are seeking opinions. Like, I look at your photo, and wonder if you'll be offended if I criticize it or if I praise it.

fair enough. Always looking for ways to improve my tank. Do not Claim to k now it all. just learning as I go on.

Why not list your equipment? What are your lights, what is your total flow, skimmer, ATO....etc, etc, etc. How about some history? Is this your first tank, how long has it been running, what are your plans.............

Most of us are curious gossips, we wanna know details, man :) LOL!!

A little history. I started about 2 years ago with a 56 Gallon Column tank. It was a not the tank for salt water, but I made a go out of it.. Had a DYI over flow into a 10 gallon sump. Everything was going great until my overflow lost suction and my ATO dumped on my floor. So me and my wife decided to upgrade the tank. If I can fin the photos of the first one I will post them.

I did a fishless cycle on both tanks with the pure ammonia method. When my 75 was cycled I moved 2 clowns, a watchman goby, a firefish a cleaner shrimp and a bunch of snails and 2 craps and have not lost anything. No Ammonia Spikes. Needless to day I'm a fan of the pure ammonia cycle.

I'm looking to add a tank in the near future and for the first time in 35 years of fish keeping will be doing a AT tank. Trying get get everything together to get that set up.

List of gear on the 75

75 Gallon Marineland Corner Flow.. (wish I would of got the off center over flow)
Marineland Stand (Short not really easy to work under buy I make it work)
The Canopy is home made by a friend. Looks ok, but teh paint job is not the best.
Aqueon 20 Gallon Long Sump
Mag Drive 9.5 Return Pump. (as far as flow I have it dialed in where there not a ton of splash in the sump.
Reef Octopus BH2000 Skimmer (hanging on the sump) - Looking to upgrade this as well.
BRU Dual Reactor
2 Kessil a150 Sky Blue Lighting. (They seem good enough for soft coral, might add 2 more at some point)
2 Hydor 1500 and 1 750. Power Heads (having a heck of a time getting them to work like I have)
Finnex HMO Heater.
Reef Keeper Lite
JBL ATO
BRS RODI unit.

Sure I missed something. Anyhow thanks for looking and any and all advice would be great.

Is your mystery coral in image#3 Green Star Polyps? When you add the Ammonia do you only do so once at the very beginning?

I Think he the coral is a star polyps.. Not 100% sure tho..

When I do ammonia.. I added enough to get my PPM to 4 or 5 and I keep adding that much each day until I get a nitrite spike. After that I cut in half until my Ammonia and Nitrite are 0 for 3 days or say.. Then I start doing water changes to bring the nitrate down.. On the 75 my levels were unreadable. During that time I dose about 1/4 the amount to keep everything going.

I've done this with 2 salt water tanks and a number of freshwater tanks and have never had a issue.. You just need to make sure it's 100% pure ammonia. I use the ACE brand sold at ace hardware.

Good to know, thanks. I have never cycled a tank that way.

Nice setup! Should do well as the tank matures.

My first guess on the mystery coral was GSP as well. What gives me pause is that the heads seem a little too thick, almost like a leather. Maybe easier to ID when it grows more.

Thanks Maxter.. Just wish I could get some good close up shots. I take 20 and 1 might be ok. I have 3 new coral's and can't seem get to a good close up. Guess need to try a different lens.

Palting. When I first got it there were 2 heads now the rock is pretty much full.

Ive read good things about Dr. Tim's stuff let us know how it works for you.

What size is that pvc pipe for your filter sock in the 15th post? Is that a 4" sock.

Good idea.

Yes it's a 4" sock and the PVC pipe is 1" drain. The PVC pipe the sock is sitting in it's 4". Had some left from another project and cut it is sit in the sump and raise the suck up to meet the return pipe. When I bought the 4" pipe there was a section on the end that was broken and I got it for $10, and only needed 2 feet for the project I bought it for so had a lot left (still do).
