I have a Kent Maxxima 60GPH I purchase in 2006 as my first RODI system. It's now 12 years old. It's that time to replace the filters and membrane!
Would you recommend replacing the RODI system for a better unit.
I've researching on SpectraPure
180 gpd (uses 2 90 gpd Membranes) w / 10 inch

Or what would you recommend?

Oddly enough I went through the exact same scenario. I had an old Kent in need of an overhaul. I ended up going with the spectrapure Maxcap 180 and have never looked back. Been using it for four years. I change the filters once a year and am still on the same membranes.

Of course there are other options but I'm pretty sold on Spectrapure. Just one opinion.

Well I definitely recommend changing all the media and the RO membrane. If you are needing more water overall, then I would suggest upgrading. I would also look at the cost of changing everything and compare that to the cost of buying a new unit, and see which option sounds better to you. Do you have a TDS meter?

Spectrapure is a great company. I have been to their head quaters a few times, they go above and beyond for their customers. BRS is awesome as well but I don't have experience with their RO units so I cant speak personally on those RO units. I would put them on a level playing field for quality, price and CS. You could just upgrade you current unit but i t may be more cost effective to getna new unit. I have an old 3 stage Spectrapure 90gpd with an added on 4th stage for DI and it needs a full overhaul. Been sitting for over 2 years all filters and membrane are shot, lines need replaced, gauge is broken. I am in the same boat as you, weighing the options on overhaul and upgrade or buy a new unit.

Every year I have changed the filters and membrane sometimes order from BRS or the filterguys who I originally order my filters. Yes definitely the BRS CS is great on the phone. As I had mentioned the current Kent Maxxima I purchase 12 years when I started in the hobby. Yes this RODI has made lots of water! It has seen New York, Pennsylvania and now Florida waters!
The TDS is no longer working, the metal that holds the cartridges and membrane is rusted, and it leaks in several lines. Yes I think she needs to take a break. Now there are system that can process the water into RO efficiently, less waste, and better quality.

I have never owned a TDS meter, never concerned myself since I rarely had issue with my DT probably because I religiously WC 10% almost every week.

Now it's become a major factor because I am trying to breed clownfish. And the water quality needs to be on check. So yes when I order the RODI system will definitely invest on a TDS meter as well. I read here a few threads about RODI and several members recommended BRS and SpectraPure. Just wanted to double check and see if differences of opinion has changed since then. I am strongly considering the SpectraPure 180 GPH I like the 2 membrane setup, I'm sure will be costly to replace not 1 but 2 now. But I believe the waste will be less in my water bill.

Certainly can't go wrong with Spectrapure.
But before you buy, checkout Buckeye Hydro.

I got a 5 stage from Air Water & Ice over a decade ago. Just added a water saver and I use a booster pump because my well water just doesn't have the power to run it efficiently. I have 0 complaints, but if I was going to replace it, I would probably try out the BRS units.

Here's the 2 RODI system I am considering. Bulk Reef Supply5 STAGE 150GPD PLUS WATER SAVER RO/DI SYSTEM Or the SpectraPure[emoji768] 180gpd MAXCAP[emoji768] RODI System

Below it's the specifications on the systems.

BRS
5 Stage Plus Water Saver RO/DI Features: Produce 150 GPD of product water without any more waste water than a single 75 GPD membrane would produce.

You could go with the SpectraPure and add the water saver to that unit also. I am getting ready to add the water saver to my unit.

Spectrapure. If you add a second membrane to double your output, be sure you replace the restrictor so that your flow rejection ratio stays the same. Doubling your output without doubling your waste water will foul up the membranes allot faster. While their high end sediment filers and di cost more, they are worth it....those carbon blocks last a long time when they don't have allot of dirt clogging them up...To get the best results you really need to fit the system to your water supply....RODI systems aren't completely plug and play....a little research about setup now will save you a ton over the long term....especially if you have crummy water like I do.

I'm extremely happy with my upgrade. I went with a 150gpd unit from Melevs reef

Another vote for the spectrapure, no need to add a BRS upgrade as the spectrapure you're looking at is the same as the water saver only it produces more. My SP 90GPD brings my 241 TDS down to 1 which is awesome. I did the BRS upgrade with mine but if I had a do over I'd go with the SP you're looking at now.

I got the SpectraPure MaxCap 2:1 Manual Flush 90-GPD RO/DI System instead. I thought the 180GPD was a bit much for my needs. Setting up today.

Excellent choice...you will be happy with that unit.

Good choice. A plus is the SP membranes and really high quality and cheaper to replace than BRS. I get my DI and prefilters for BRS and the membrane directly from SP, pretty cost effective.
