hi everyone ,
I was browsing through some triton posts last week when I came across a post from someone who had been testing mg with saliferts , after getting back his triton test results he noticed that the triton test gave a much higher reading than saliferts almost 100 ppm more .. well I also use saliferts mg test and I have also just had triton tests results back , and guess what .. yep mine is also higher than what saliferts reads ... saliferts mg = 1275-1290
Triton = 1370
Ok I know it's not so high , but has anybody else had similar problems with saliferts mg ..
I will now be switching too Red Sea pro mg test see what that reads ..
But I would recommend anybody using saliferts mg check your results against another test to be sure ...

All the test kits we have are "hobby grade". The triton results are lab grade test results. Being within 100 on Mg is pretty decent I'd think. Calcium would be a different story.

Also, user error is probably the biggest issue we face. It is so easy to do half a dripp to little or to much, not to mention - when should one actually stop and read the scale? Do we stop at the same "phase" every time we test?
Which is best, to read when colour starts to shift or when it has stopped shifting, ie fluid is fully saturated?
Not to mention are we using the same amount of daylight to read off each time? And lastly, how long has the kit been opened? It could potentially be destroyed through contamination the first time we use it, and as time goes on the reagents might lose effect. I know from personal experience and testing that a test that is fresh has significantly more distinct colours, than a test that has been opened for a year (expiration date means very litte).

Yes I do use salifert only, but i can assure you there is not much difference in accuracy between them and Red sea :)
