I’ve seen hydroponics done in freshwater with fish in the bottom. I’ve always thought that was cool. What is the plausibility of having a sand dune on top of a reef tank and having the roots grow down into the tank. The plants would be the grasses and plants that grow in sand dunes. I think it would be cool and I’m just curious if it’s possible. What do y’all think?

I would say that anything that grows in a brackish or saltwater, should do fine. If the grasses you are speaking about for the dunes are not adapted to Salt, I would imagine that the salts would kill the root system.

Look into saltwort. I have seeds but haven't planted them yet.
