I've had this toadstool leather (small Elephant Ear?) for a year and a half and it's done really well. 3 months ago I migrated my tank from a 20G nano to a RSR 170, and it seemed to handle the transition well, but over the last 3 or 4 weeks it seems to be getting progressively worse.

I haven't seen it's polyps in a few weeks, which doesn't concern me a ton because it's done that before. The spots on the side seem like molting to me, so assuming I'm not wrong that doesn't concern me too much.

What does concern me is the fact the the stalk seems to be falling over and looking like old stretched skin. Previously this leather stood up straight and had a firm looking stalk.

It was placed on the bottom of the tank at first, but I moved it here to the middle about a week ago after noticing it's condition to try to give it a little more light and flow. I also treated the tank with Chemiclean a couple of weeks ago for red cyano, but flushed that with a large water change after a couple of days.

I've kept up with my water changes every 4-7 days, and my params are okay. My nitrates are at 10, and phosphates are high at 0.55. This established tank I bought had lots of GHA and a dirty sandbed, so I've been doing water changes every 4 days (mostly) and aggressively siphoning the sandbed. The phosphates have been consistently coming down and things are looking much healthier.

I'm wondering if there's something I could do for this leather, or if this is to be expected from time to time.
