Simple Nano

How do you make your zoa branches, if you don't mind me asking? Very cool look. My son has an 8 gallon and recently got into zoas.

I use hot glue to initially attach and stabilize the pieces, then use aqua clay to reinforce the parts joined with the hot glue.

Next time you make one, please post pics at each stage.

Changed the scape to keep my humongous ric from stinging my carpet nem. (Yup, the ric is stronger) You can tell I draw inspiration from bonsai. :)

Wow that is some tank progression. Looks awesome.

Going away for a week on very short notice, so taking some "ok" shots just in case.

Xellos, two years of tracking in a single thread is gold :)

Questions: how is your sandbed so clean after this time, how do you maintain it

How have you prevented tank invasions or algae issues here

What are your main feeds that keep these good corals going and so healthy

Great looking tank!

Thanks!

My yellowtail damsel constantly digs and stirs it up. :) I also vacuum as much "dust" as I can every time I do a water change.

There is a very annoying turf algae I'd like to dub: "Demon's Pubes". It's red and looks like pubes and likes to grow over my Zoas. I tweezer it and "paint" peroxide over the affected area and that cleans some of it up. But any small strand or root that survives starts another "bush" and I do the tweezer and peroxide thing on the areas again, but this is limited to areas that are accessible (that I can take out and work on, on a table).

I feed pellet food, New Life Spectrum small pellets, and now, Hikari Mini S pellets. I feel most of the phyto / coral food comes from my water changes (I use unfiltered NSW).

It’s unnatural to have zero algae in our reefs yep, we all want the strange condition ha! Curious: when snorkeling or diving your area, do you see algae on the reefs of that same type

Yup, but they don't grow as dense. Perhaps something eats them in the wild before they can get as dense compared to in our tank. I see mostly seagrass and sargassum where I snorkel.
