Skimmer Recommendations

Hey All-
Anybody have any recommendations for a good skimmer ? ive reached the end trying to get the overpriced nyos quantum to work correctly.

I just replaced my NYOS 160 with RSK-600, and so far so good.

For what it's worth, you are not alone. I gave up trying with mine after 3 weeks. I just bought a Deltec, but Reef Octopus was also on my short list.

I have an Eshopps S-200 and I love it. Didn’t take long to get dialed in.

How big of system volume? fish load? SPS only? mixed?

Volume mixed reef. Small load for now only been running for a few months

Well if you aren't looking to spend over 500 on a skimmer for a 220gal mixed reef system.
My recommendation may be out of left field but....

Get an ASM G4 or G4+

excellent skimmers for the $$$

RED SEA RSK SERIES, its quiet enough even with an AC pump. my favorite part of it is the gear driven water control instead of your usual standpipe

Tunze, I’m a fan, on my 5th. Easy to clean and the current one is set and forget, no adjustments it rocks. It’s a 9430 which is rated for something like 800 gallons but it’s a perfect fit for my 180 reef.

It's amazing how experiences differ. I gave up on a Bubble Magus and got a Nyos and it's been perfect.

I was very happy with my Nyos for first 6 months, after that it would stop drawing air when pump restarted after feeding etc., had a motor housing, impeller and other parts replaced under warranty. Worked for 5 weeks and started doing the same. Dealing with warranty again, but bought RSK-600. Hope you will have a better experience.

The OP has a NYOS. Also if you have a 180g display im guessing you have some cash to drop on a skimmer.

Thanks guys. This is weird, I lost a sensor magnet on the back of the sump for my ato. While reaching and trying to find I didn’t realize i was pressing the skimmer against the divider. I moved it off and it started skimming to the cup like it’s supposed to. Maybe the piece holding the airline wasn’t snugly pushed it. It can’t be the easy, but I don’t know.
