Skimmer too powerful? What's up with zoas?
I have had a mixed reef tank for years. It is dominantly sps, with a number of lps and soft corals. I have always had good luck with zoanthids, but I am noticing lately that the zoanthids are either not opening or not fully opening, and growth has slowed or halted. The only recent change in the tank is an upgraded skimmer, bubble magus Mac 9, up to 500 gallons, on a 180 gallon system. I am wondering if the skimmer is pulling out too many nutrients, and negatively effecting the zoas.
Ph 8.2
Alk 9
Calcium 480
Magnesium 1300
All parameters have been steady. Tank is under halide and t5s. Thankyou for any insight you have about the zoanthids, I'm kind of on a big zoa kick and want to see these guys thrive.
