Fairly new to SPS corals. Purchased a frag a few months ago. Just checking in on growth rate to see how I am sitting. (Only purchased one SPS frag just as a test run as I heard SPS corals can be tricky. I have many LPS and softies and all are doing very well).
Left side was taken 10/9 (a few days after gluing it down), right side was taken today 1/9. Is this good growth, okay growth, or bad growth for a three month time span? Hasn't done much vertical growing, but is definitely much thicker.
Thanks!!

Great job and good luck!;)
You doing well.

Looks picture perfect! You should notice it base out a bit and in some cases a lot before it starts to bud new branches and start growing vertical. Looks like you got it!

Are you sure it's a slimmer cause it looks a little different

Thanks for all the quick feedback! That's what I love about the saltwater community. And I'm not 100% certain @TUSI , I just know that's what it was sold to me as. Any ideas on what you're thinking it is instead?

You've done an excellent job. The before and after images are really impressive.

It looks like a stag. If it's a slimmer you would have had a rough time gluing it on the rock cause of the slime. The coralits look different than a slimer

Thanks again for all the feedback! I'm excited knowing it's growing well in a good amount of time. I've been wanting to branch out more into SPS but wanted to test the waters so to speak!

Looks like a slimer to me. Its much happier now than when you brought it home. Its starting to encrust, the wound on top has healed over, the color is better and it has great polyp extension. Itr also has more polyps than when you started
You're on the right track.

Ya, I'd recommend some of the starter corals. Stylophora, (catspaw) Seriatopora,(birdsnest) most staghorns, and most montipora's. Those are pretty forgiving corals for the new SPS keeper.

Edit: The birdsnest can be finicky and actually are pretty much "the canary in a coal mine" if you know what that means.

I think you are definetly on the right track to add more sps corals. trido said it best, I would start with some of the hardier sps corals and then slowly go into others. Great job and keep us posted with pictures cause you have the perfect example of success with the pictures above

Ya there's a whole world of montiporas one of my favorite Sps I agree with the birds nest good one know if your tank is doing good is growing your good it's looking bad you better take a close look see what your water parameters are .

Awesome. There are a few locals in my area that have awesome SPS dominated tanks that are always thinning out their tanks. I'll have to get a hold of them and start looking to add more to mine! I love thag birds nest analogy @trido. I do have access to a few free bop birds nest so maybe I'll pick them up in the nest day or two

Just an update on my slimmer frag. It's taken a drastic turn for the worse unfortunately. I upgraded tanks this weekend and between moving equipment over and moving the livestock itself, there was a decent temp loss. And the slimmer wasn't a fan. Lost all color and tips are slowly losing polyps and "skin". It'll most likely be dead within a week. :(
