I’m struggling with what I think may be dinos.. Tank has been up and running since February with no issues.. Recently over the coarse of the last month my tank has developed a brownish algae that goes away when the lights are off but pops back up when they’re on.. I can change my filter floss out and within an hour it is brown again.. My tank has a smell to it like the collection cup would of a protein skimmer.. I’ve lost 2 clowns in the last week and the only 2 hammer corals I had.. Pics below are when my lights first go off.. Any suggestions? I’ve done water changes and doesn’t seem to help any besides clear up the water for a day or so then back to a brownish color.. It doesn’t have air bubbles in the algae and not snotty like dinos look.. Almost looks like diatoms but not a goldish tint to it.. Thanks in advance

That's odd that it goes away when the lights are off??? Maybe try a prolonged dark period? What are your parameters and what all are you doing for filtration? Do you believe the algae has something to do with the dead clowns and Corals?

Your bacteria is out of balance. meaning something is wrong. looks like your tank is still cycling. leave the lights off keep the system running. take out the chem pads like carbon and all that.
Head over to dr tims site I believe he has just what you need. o and watch his videos, good info there on this stuff like this

Parameters using Red Sea test kits are
Nitrates 2ppm
Nitrate and Ammonia 0
Ph 7.8
Salinity 1.23

Filtration I’m using filter floss and Purigen.. Lately been using filter pad as well just to try and get the brown out of my water column.. I believe it definitely killed the 2 hammers bc both had the brown algae on top of the heads similar to the sand bed.. I’ve had the lights off for 2 days now and just doses DinoX before I made the post on here

Cycling after 9 months? Tanks been up and running since February, I’ll check out the vids but it’s been running awesome the last 8-8.5 months.. Just odd it started out of no way with no change in the system
