I have a stars and stripes puffer. Someone suggested feeding it snails to help it keep its beak honed down.
Other than like dwarf astrias is there a cheap snail he will eat that is more seen as a food than CUC?

+1 to the zig zags, I also get a pretty good deal on baby nassarius and baby blue leg hermits that my dog face loves, you can usually find deals on them like 50 for 20 dollars or so. My dogface and triggers love to hunt down the nassarius in the sand bed.

Most of what you can readily buy is going to be sold as cuc, we just make em food, I do the same when emerald crabs go on sale. I generally feed clams on the half shell for them to chew on, its way cheaper and always available.

Came here to suggest clams on the half shell as well! :)

What about fresh water snails? I have plenty of rams horns in a planted tank that would be easy enough to drop in at feeding time.
Lots of us don't have a FW tank. Could work, if the puffer doesn't eat them right away though they'll die and maybe mess with the water.

that was quick for a turnaround, why did you decide to sell it? just curious

I have had him for a couple months and the original plan was to only keep him few months I got him from someone who wanted him out of his tank ebcause it was eating corals. He is almost too large for the tank now and at full grown he will definitely be too large for the tank. At this time I have no corals but once the tank is well established I plan on going that route.

Just ordered periwinkles from reefcleaners.org as well as other cuc that I dont care if he eats.

I like him. He is actually my favorite fish but at some point he will have to go.

100% agree with you on your decision, they require too big of a tank for most people and fowlr.

Yeah. He is fine for the time being but at anypoint I can find someone that wants him I will get rid of him.

Or if I hit the lottery and buy a 300 gal tank I will just keep him :)
