Lost an angel and now the goby looks awful. I've started copper and melafix hopefully it helps. I don't have coral so I'm treating display as it's an easier option. What does this look like? I'm guessing ich and a bacterial infection. Zoom in 20190623_114508.jpg

Could be ich. If it is quickly killing fish may be velvet. Maybe someone else can chime in but I thought using copper in a display is problematic with live rock as it will persist to a degree and potentially kill inverts later.

I think it will leach from the rocks but it's a fowlr so not too worried on that aspect

If your using copper I hope the tank is bare, no live sand or rock! If not it will absorb the copper and is now garbage. Looks more like velvet to me.

I've always been under the impression that the live rock will be garbage if you intend on ever using them in a reef tank. This will never be one so I think the rocks will be ok as far as beneficial bacteria goes..

I don’t see velvet yet, spots appear too large for velvet. If they grow in numbers quickly then it is likely velvet (over the next few days)

I'm going to get a 10 gallon to treat. I'll have to tear apart my tank but that's the price you pay sometimes!!!! Lol

I am so sorry I posted the wrong comment in the wrong thread. This looks like velvet to me so your course of action is wise! Sorry again I’m not sure what happened!

Is velvet like ich in the respect that you need to leave your tank empty for months?

Yes, fallow. I’d do 76 days to cover ich velvet and brook.

While the logic that the tank is FOWL

Do be worried my friend. Because it absorbs and releases copper, it causes fluctuations in the copper level in the water column. If that level dips below therapeutic levels even for a short period, treatment becomes ineffective. If you do go that route, be sure you’re using an accurate tool and measure copper levels at least daily. Best of luck.

Even in a FOWLR copper is deadly to some fish.

I have several small QTs, but I have also ‘Nuked’ my FOWLR (with sand) DT more than once— copper, etc. Yes, you have to Hanna Check daily, and Yes, forget about having a CUC for a good while, if ever. But don’t knock it until you try it. Lol. Peace ✌️

You’ve got a good point there. I use Cupramine and it does claim on the bottle to be removable w carbon. So I put some live rock in my qt. Was still there for a long time (don’t recall how long. Kept at it for at least a few weeks. Maybe a few mths) after I ran carbon, did weekly water changes. I just tossed it after that. If others have had success, quess it’s possible :)
