Sponge on my torch?

Hi all, this is on a newly acquired frag. It's soft to the touch. Is this a sponge? Is it beneficial or harmful?

Start getting that sponge off. It is in a no friend zone. Toothbrush or whatever you trust yourself to remove it with. Try not to touch the torch. Also, I don't know if dips kill sponges.

I’m a fan of sponges but not when they get they start to grow over, or too close to coral like that.

Removed the growths with fine-tipped tweezers--it came off easily. Then I dipped everything but the polyps in H2O2 3%, followed by Bayer and Coral Rx. Everything looks good. We'll see how it goes!
