Sponges and dips

Any clue if tube or vase sponges can be dipped in fresh water or a coral dip?

I don't know about dipping sponges. Aren't you supposed to keep them in water at all times to prevent air getting in and basically causing an embolism in the organism?

What are you trying to prevent from getting in the tank?

Just general hitchhikers and what not. I know they have issues in air but the dip is for anything that I did not want

If you are worried about hitchhikers then quarantine to observes.
