What is this root-like algae(?) that appeared on the glass overnight? Stays together but blows apart really easy. Didn't appear to move at all on it's own. Appeared once before a few months ago but I didn't get a clear answer on what it was.

Sadly, I can't id what it is. Only what it could be. Either a dinoflagellates or red slime. Dinos usually are pretty bubbly as well. So, perhaps more likely a strain of cyano. Any chance for a close up on a section of the algae? Only way to ID the strain is microscope, but that usually doesn't matter. Treatments for both can be different.

Similar? Worms in that case.

Scraped it this morning. That was the only pictures I got. Very familiar with different strains of cyano and dino and it's nothing at all like I'm used to seeing.

Yeah, looks exactly like that! Wasn't thinking worm because it didn't move at all while I was watching it. The bottom section was broken/missing, maybe it got eaten or passed over by a snail and died?
