So I was wondering what everyone was doing as far as their sump lights are concerned. I've heard a few schools of thought on this, the first is leave them on 24/7, I know a lot of people that do this. The second I heard was alternating your on time with your off time, but one of the arguments was that if you do this you could inadvertently cause whatever's in your fuge to flower and put off spores into your main tank. The final school I heard, and this was from a friend who is a hothouse grower and a reef keeper was that she likes to have about 16-18 hours of on time for her tank to promote an aggressive grow out or veg state that most plants are accustomed to.

Anyone else have any thoughts on these theories?

I run mine opposite dt lights.... But not getting cheato growth (not sure if cuz I have no nitrates) so following this thread:)

24/7 is mainly if u have Calupera macro.

For Cheato 18 on, 6 off works great. Plants need some period of darkness to recover.

Depends on the algae. Most are photosynthetic and need a dark time for it to work properly. And usually do dark when main tank lights are on, then sump light on when dt lights are off to control ph swings
