About to purchase a new setup. What are the advantages of a sump over an ALL IN ONE system? Im looking at the Waterbox Marine X vs the Waterbox Marine AIO. Please share thoughts and opinions!

The benefit of having the sump is more water volume, and more room for things like a refugium and so forth. Benefit of AIO is its smaller, and more compact, less things to clean and maintain.

You're liable to get conflicting answers to this one. Some folks love AIO's and others are die hard sump fans. I'm a sump guy. More water volume, easier maintenance (in my opinion), allows for more gadgets down the road, and all of the equipment is hidden in the cabinet.

I plan on setting up both, sump first then smaller AIO in my offcie.

I don't like
1. wires going over the edge of my very clean looking display
2. skimmer cup full of poo poking out the back.

other than that AIO is really cool and less to worry about like failing check valves and a pump

also if you ever want to run reactors, it's easier to hide and feed them with a sump.

My previous system was an AIO JBJ 65. It was nice but I felt limited in what I could choose for equipment. Was a bit of a pain to keep clean and grew Green Hair in the back because of the lights right there. My current build is a 180 gallon with biggest sump I could get.

I do still have the JBJ just not set up.
