Off of my Pump, it has a union so I can take it out for easy removal. Do I need to have a ball valve union as well before it exits my sump? I have plans to put on union ball valve right before the plumbing goes into the tank returns.

Thanks

I’m not expert, I’m sure someone will verify, but I don’t think any ball valves “needed” for returns.

Union yes to remove easy. Maybe a check valve but that’s debatable.

In my planning. I will have no check valves or ball valves on returns. I debating a union, but I have a small line of tubing to connect my return pump to return pvc line. I can cut and replace when needed.

A union ball valve is only needed to stop water flowing back through the piping. I would rather have it by the pump than up by the tank. You only need one.

I want to make sure that there's not something lost in translation or thought... Are you thinking "check valve" and not "union ball valve". I don't know of any ball valve that will stop water flow unless it's closed completely otherwise it just restricts flow.

A union ball valve is a single or double union with a ball valve built in.
Its purpose is to allow a piece of equipment like a pump to be removed without having water flow back from the tank. IF necessary it can also be used to control the flow from the pump.
