Any special tips here? Good growth tips, flow preferrences? Special things to keep the color? I should be getting one from a local guy in a few days for a good price, pics when I get it :adore:

Is it the original superman or is it a wild caught one? The original one, I have found, likes more light and colors up better under it. They will also take pretty good flow.

Matt

Im not sure, Ill ask. It doesnt matter to me to be honest, but Ill upload the pic I got and maybe ya'll can give me an idea

EDIT: I went to the original sale post and it is the original!

Interested in adding to my tank also, so will tag along.

I have my lineaged SM monti about midway down a 125 under 250W DE 14K Phoenix and (2)-160W VHO 03's. I haven't tried it in other locations. It didn't grow for over a year, but has started to encrust a lot for me over the last 6 months. I had alk and ca porblems early on. My AC SM montis, I keep as high as I can (along with any of my other encrusting monti's). They all get med-med high flow. When I lower my AC SM's, they lose some of the color.

Water chemistry staying stable including salinity, Alk, Ca, Mg will help as encrusting montis can be difficult at times. However, phosphates will brown them out quick!
Keep up on regular water changes.
Med-high placement for light.
They like flow!
Here is a growth progression of my Sunset....

I know this is not a superman, but encrusting montis grow about the same speed unless you have a bigger system with a big skimmer and big calcium reactor. Then you could get better growth. Mine is in a 180 about a foot deep and under 250w 20K HQI. Phosphates affect the color intensity of the orange. The same will happen with the blue in superman with phosphates.

Try to keep Alk at 10DKH.

I've had this original Superman monti frag for about 3 years... over the past year, she's exploded and I think it's due to more direct lighting and more flow.. I had a koralia 1 directed on it on my 32g and I have a Koralia nano directed at it on the 28g... good luck with yours Jeff... :)

Thanks everyone. I got my frag today, its about 3/4" by 3/4" or so. Its polyps were out when it went it, looks healthy as can be. I put it in the middle of the tank, in about medium indirect flow. It should do well. I will work on getting a picture soon

i have a few tiny pieces of superman and havent had it very long so not sure on its growth or anything yet. but i did put it half way down the tank and on a vertical surface... so im very intersted on how it will handle that and whether it might try to plate out to get more light??

I've attached a pics of my Superman monti as well as a couple of Sunset. The Superman has grown much slower; it seems to require very high light to maintain its color, while the sunset has grown well in a lower position. The Superman's light requirement is just like the Rainbow monti, but the Rainbow grows much faster.

I have a question mine is the same as the one in the first pic. I guess my question is how many different morphs are there as I see different ones in this thread? Mine actually looks all purple because of the amount of polyps. You have to get close to it to see the blue.

well the superman monti is blue base with redish polyps. some are a little brighter than others though. but if you say yours looks almost all purple then maybe you have a purple haze? with the bluish/purplish base with purple polyps. just a thought ?? :)

I went and looked a little closer it has red polyps, I guess it just looks purple cause if you mix blue with red you get purple. It has a lot of polyps and some areas they are real close together.I'll see if I can get a good pic and post it.
