I am setting up a 60 cube in my living room. The tank will be located right next to my couch. I'm debating between T5 and LEDs. The main question I have here is: if you're sitting next to the tank, how much will the light spill over? I don't care if it's brighter there, but I don't want people on the couch to be bothered/blinded by the light.

LEDs dont seem to have this effect. How about T5?

I had 10 t'5s on my 180g inside a fish room and the light poured out of the front window across the livingroom... I switched to t5's and you can barely tell there are lights on in the house if I just have the tank on. If it is going to be within a couple feet I would go w/ LEDs ;)

That's a lot of T5's. :)

I had a four (and later six) bulb T5 fixtures on my 90 but there was a canopy so it wasn't a bother.

I have 6 t5's on my 46 g and no light spill. just make sure you get the right size light fixture

I had 6 OD T5's on my 90, and there was quite a bit of spill into the room. I have an LED fixture on the way, can't wait to see how it looks.

I don't think that there would be a huge issue with the t-5's and light spill. I had a halide fixture on my 55 and the light spill was horrific. I made a simple curtain and used a tension curtain rod to hang it. Viola, no light spill.
