Tang question

They aren't swimming the length of the tank because it's not even long enough to swim up to any normal speed they'd be at int he wild... I have strong continuous flow on mainly one side of my 6ft 150gal tank and they love darting into the flow and fighting it then swimming the length of the tank. Mostly my Achilles anyway. My hippo is too big now but used to do the same. Now he really needs a larger tank. I definitely think they benefit greatly from it. Is something going on with your hippo or is it healing? Its gut looks an odd shape and that facial mark

The facial mark is erosion on just that side, other side is clean. The belly changes, picture was taken in the morning prior to feeding. He is most dominant and first to eat. All these fish are 13 years old.

I have a 120g: I put a medium sized powder brown in it, and then changed my mind and re-homed it pretty quickly. It was very obviously too small of a tank for it... constantly zipping back and forth and giving me a heart-attack thinking it would barrel head-first into the glass, rock, or another fish.

The kole I had seemed fine, but was a bit aggressive. The yellow didn’t seem to bother anyone, or really get into trouble lol Unfortunately, I lost both of those two in a mini-crash...and decided that maybe it’s better to just stick with my wrasses lol

I think if you watch your fish enough (apparently, I have way too much time on my hands) it’s pretty easy to see if a fish needs a bigger tank. Also, if a fish looks like it needs to hold it’s breath to fit between the rocks and the glass... re-home the poor thing, for goodness sake.

They are a very pretty fish as juveniles and as adults. Doesn't seem that many people have them in their reefs/aquaria. I had considered getting one for my own tank, but their size and relatively quick growth rate held me back. Now that my tangs are getting pretty large themselves, I realize I'm done adding large fish altogether. Just not enough space even in a 300.
I’ve reached that point as well

Thanks everyone for your input I've decided to get Tangs that can stay in the 120 "forever", I'm going to go with a Kole yellow eye, a Tomini and a convict. Now I need to find them all in the same place and the same-ish size.

That's a very responsible decision. I haven't tried mixing Ctenochaetus spp in a smaller tank. The Kole and Tomini may not tolerate each other.

I guess I'll find out really fast. I plan on using a 55 as the QT tank and I plan on getting them small and at the same time, not that it can be used to predict behavior as they get older/bigger but it could be an indicator.

Well I just read a post where someone's Tomini started attacking the Kole after 9 months of being buddies, I'm still getting the Kole but will go with something other than the Tomini.
