ok so i have had my 90gl setup for about 8 month. went to work, came home.. cracked right down the back. what causes a tank to crack is it some fault of mine?? or does crap just happen sometimes?? this is so frustrating might just get out of the hobby now:cry:

Man i know that feeling too well ,,, looks to be a AGA tank . My Oceanic 72 Bow front split on the seam , they replaced it asap too. none of my corals of fish though

Hey Guy! I can't imagine that is the result of something you did! Please don't get out of the hobby! You have such a beautiful tank! You know, this happened to Harry not too long ago. This is a sign that you need a new, biggier tank! I will keep you in my prayers! Debbie

That sucks - sorry to hear it.

Did you level the tank/stand? That is the only reason I can see it cracking. If it isn't level, there is 8lbs per gallon of pressure on the tank, and it will crack if it is cocked at all.

AGA is made here by me, a family owned business, well renound when family owned, I think about a year ago they sold out to a larger company that does multiple products for this hobby, so maybe quality control went down. Also I read so many threads on RC when someone was building there own stands if I should have a flat platform or a rimmed platform, well AGA tanks sit just on there perimeter rim, if flat it is not supported correctly, non rimmed tanks sit on a totally flat surface, useally Acrylic tanks. Or here, and I feel sorry for his delema, if it was a rimmed tank and made his own stand for a rim tank, and in the back the area that cracked, maybe that area of the stand sauged and there was no support there causing the crack, glass is a strange material, when verticle stronger then heck, lay it flat and weak as can be, that is why if you see a glass truck, it is verticle on the sides of the truck, But no furgivness, actually glass is a liquid, always in a slow motion, just like you do not have to go from a solid to a liquid, to a gas, I foreget what it is called, to many years from engineering school, but a piece of ice will disipate, to a gas, without ever melting!

the tank is made by aqion or close to that spelling its an all glass aquarium AGA. I just checked the stand and its Level and no gaps between the stand and the level either. The stand I didnt make myself i bought it as a set. its one of those standard pine wood stands. the crack ran from the back right corner to about the top, middle of the tank about 4 inches to the right of the overflow. Do tanks just get old and this is what happens or is there always a reason and something wrong and that is why they crack? The only reason I am still thinking of getting out of the hobby is peace of mind!! I just know if I setup anouther tank I wont be able to sleep right just thinking that it might just happen again. Anyone that has had a tank crack please relpy and let me know why yours cracked, if you set up a new one how did you stop worrying about it!! thanks all. I finally got all the water off the floor and I got a 100gl stock tank with all my corals and live stock in it for now till I decide on what I am going to do.

Sorry to hear about this. It was a beautiful setup.

TC69. You got a beef with them!! But they will try and put all on you!! But it was there stand and tank, so what did you wrong?????????? Nothing,so stand tuff, and not just for a new tank, but some monitory support, which you will most likly not get, but free supplies from the mother company now, if you do not need that stand tuff,, stand tuff for your inconvience and losses!!!! Owned my own business, know how it works!!!

Yeah... that's called sublimation.

TC, sorry to hear about your tank. I don't have any suggestions. Honestly, though, tank cracks are VERY rare. Set another one up and you will be fine. You are more likely to win the lottery before you see that again!

Sorry to hear bro... :(

Use this opportunity to set up your dream system. :D

go with a acrylic tank ,, there are some real nice acrylic tanks out there ,,,Glass cages makes a real nice one ,,for a good price too.
I have a 200 gal glass , thats gonna be a 200 acrylic early next year if all goes right. i still think about all that water on my floor last X-mas eve ,,,, love glass but they scare me a bit with my grand kid around.
