So I know the tanks need to be sanitized after a fish is transferred out. Bleach and vinegar and air dry are what I’ve read, but are there any other alternatives?
Specifically, what about soaking everything in straight RODI water? Does anyone know if ich can survive in it?

A freshwater dip in RODI will cause Ich to spasm and drop off fish. And then they die later.
Another alternative is to wash the tank and equipment with hydrogen peroxide. It destroys carbon based materials. Rinse, rinse, dry. Some labs use HP to clean equipment.

I would second the the Hydrogen Peroxide choice, or even Rubbing alcohol. Vinegar would only clean but not sanitize and Bleach would need time to gas off. I personally use a a mixture of Bleach and water at a 1:2 ratio.

Whatever you do, during that 72 hour period that the fish is in the current QT container, the previous container should be air drying outside — in the sun if possible.

Happy reefing :)

Might do H2O2 next time, seems safer on the other side.

I was wondering if a RODI soak would cause the organisms to die completely, due to the extreme difference in osmolarity.

Does anyone know how long bleach needs to degrade and "gas off" on rinsed and dried equipment?

I would rinse out with a hose after wiping down with bleach, contact time of bleach should be around 10-20 minutes. After rinsing and drying thoroughly, let the container gas off outdoors for 24 hours. You should not notice any "bleach" afterwards and should be good to go. I do 48 hours -- further killing off anything that might have survived the bleach wash -- then wipe down with RO water. That gives you 20 hours to set the container up again as a QT, and match salinity and ph for the next round.

Everything I have read pretty much stated that letting everything dry properly was the best sure bet. Otherwise if there was anything that was more enclosed or had awkward crevices and had a risk of not drying properly I would bleach, followed by a thorough rinse, and finish by letting it dry off as best as possible anyways
