My Fijian Devil female named Sheila, because she is a shark, has been attacked by a tank mate. Currently there is a medium sized Flame Angel, a small/medium sized Arc-Eyed Hawkfish, and a tiny two-stripe Damsel that lives in my zoa garden in the tank.

Today I noticed a chunk of flesh missing from Sheila the Shark and I am seeking advice if I should do anything or leave her be? She seems to be swimming fine and my guess is the Hawkfish nipped her when the auto feeder came on yesterday.

I know she’ll heal eventually, but is there anything I should be on the lookout for? Or, is there a treatment I can broadcast to the whole tank to keep her from getting any worse? Broadcast since there is no way I’ll catch her.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You should consider keeping a close eye on the wound area for a white/light greyish film and or redness. Both can be symptoms of bacterial infection. Treatments for bacterial infections require antibiotics like: Furan2, NFG powder, Kanaplex, Triple Sulfa aka Sulfaplex, all of which are wide spectrum antibiotics that work well on both gram positive and gram negative bacterial infections.

For injury a bath in methylene blue is a good and time honored treatment.

Ruby Reef Rally claims to be reef safe. It has both antibiotic and antiseptic qualities that could help the fish's immune system to repair the damage. A bath in RRR would be better and safer as you never can tell what reactions may occur even though RRR claims to be "reef safe." So your mileage may vary when dosing into a reef tank.

Thank you for the response. I’m gonna look into each of the treatments you mentioned. This may end up with me gettting a trap to catch her so that I can effectively treat the wound.

Thanks again for the informative response.
