The Reefer

Came home from work last night to find my snails eating my shrimp. Apparently he perished sometime during the day. ;Dead Not sure why this happened, my params are good and I thought I had acclimated him slowly enough but maybe not? Bummer. The coral I recently added are doing well and the little goby in QT looks great.
Are you sure it's not the molt from the shrimp? Sometimes they look like the shrimp, but it's just the outer shell

Oohhhh, very good point. I have been fooled in the past. Guess I’ll know in a few days if he comes out or not. Thank you, that hadn’t even crossed my mind!

Let's hope it's just a molt

Well it wasn’t just a molt, my pistol shrimp has perished. I’m not sure what I did wrong. Params:

T-77
pH- 8.2
SG- 1.025
Ammonia- 0.0
Nitrate 4.28
Calcium- 492
Phosphate- 0.0
Alk- 8.8
Mag- 1410

Am I missing something? Tank is currently stocked with quite a few lps/shrooms, a BTA, and 2 Snowflake clowns.
TIA!

Unrelated to the shrimp, this is happening:

Ok so my Reefdose went rogue and dumped 12 mls of Alk into the sump. I understand how much that will raise my alk so I‘m not too worried. Until it does this again….

So. If Reefdose tries to kill me and my alk spikes, how do I get it back down? Other than unplugging the Reefdose? Which would be my first reaction, lol.

Introduced my goby (still unnamed) to my display tank this morning. He immediately swam directly into my BTA. I almost had a heart attack. WHAAT IS HAPPENING? He then proceeded to find a spot to perch on the sand with a look of general displeasure. Exciting morning. Not sure I have the constitution for reef keeping. LOL.

Looks great

We have two new residents. I’ve replaced my pistol shrimp, RIP, with another for my goby. Instead of finding his goby he is choosing to throw down with a snail instead. After a good thrashing he is now trying to hide the evidence. :D

Going through an ugly phase. Definitely diatoms, but in some spots the brown algae is stringy and has bubbles in it. All hell is breaking loose folks! My phosphates are currently zero, I understand that bringing them up could help. What is your favorite method to keep phosphate from bottoming out?

Realized this morning that running Chemipure isn’t going to help my phosphate situation. Just a girl over here, trying to run a reef. Good grief. I am embarrassed. Are you all embarrassed for me? You should be.

Couple of hiccups but I think the Tunze is going to work nicely.

My goby and shrimp are entertaining and they have captured the interest of my three teenage sons (that is no small feat)! I love that I am able to share this hobby with them. :)

Once upon a time my anemone was caught in my overflow this morning. His clownfish was freaking out, I was freaking out, my husband was freaking out. There was a lot of chaos for a hot minute. We all calmed down and I rescued him. He’s fine. The end.
