I have read that various nps such as sun corals can be trained to open themselves for feeding during the day. Can this be done to other lps? Most lps I see release their feeders at night.

Absolutely. I use the same method. Our LPS seem to respond very well to reef roids and oyster feast mixed together. I actually turn off all flow while doing this and within 10 minutes max there wide open. Then I feed them chunks of LRS reef frenzy, turn the power head on 20% and let everyone eat.

I will try to entice my corals open before full feeding. My dottyback however enjoys taking food from my corals.

Here's a pic after 5 minutes after adding food to the tank.
