Howdy friends,

I am moving from a 32 BioCube to a 65g with a 20g sump.

I want to move my rock and corals over, but will be adding quite a bit of rock (dry rock)

Do I need to cycle the tank, then transfer everything over (I am thinking that could cause issues with competing bacteria?)
Or do I just move my rock and sand over and let the bacteria grow?

Pretty low bio-load right now (just 1 clown and 1 gramma, and my snails and crabs)

Any experience with this?

Thanks!
Shaggy

I think you should stock with what you have and cure the dry rock for a couple months separately, your gunna get algae and crazy stuff going on otherwise I've done it trust me. Cure the dry rock and rescape when its done.

Save the headache, good lock

I started the BioCube with the same dry rock about 4 months ago.
No algae issues and a pretty good crop of coraline now.

My question is really about the bacteria and the cycle.

I literally just did this. Went from 2 biocubes to a 150. I used my original rock from the Biocube and quite a bit of new dry rock. What I did was use the new dry rock to establish a base on the bottom of the tank, added new sand and then slowly started moving rock over from the Biocubes. I did cycle it but it was a quick cycle. About a week. Then I moved everything over. Went without any losses or problems. I would suggest new sand. The crap you’ll dig up in the old sand is toxic and smells horrid.

The quick cycle… that was before or after you moved some of the rock over?

Thanks for the advise

i moved a as much as I could without completely breaking down the tanks. It cycled really fast. I moved the rock so it would cycle quickly. Most of the rock had corals on them and everything went fine.
