Hey everyone,

i just added a sump to my cube reef. The sump is flowing and is perfect the tank hasnt looked this good forever. My only problem is everynow and then my tank will get loud like a water fall usually because my overflow starts sucking too much water i have ball valves for adjustment but i cant seem to find a happy medium the pump is a skimz 1065 gph but its also has a controller to limit the speed of the motor all the way down to 5%. just when i think i have found the perfect adjustment it starts again.

Did you add a HOB overflow or is there a built in overflow that you started using? If built in, what type of drain setup is it (standpipe, Stockman, Durso, Herbie, Bean)?

I strongly suspect you have too much flow through the overflow. The rush is when the water level in the overflow box gets high enough that it creates a full syphon through the drain line.

I would recommend reducing the flow from your return pump.

Well you are sort of limited on what you can do but I was going to say the only "trustworthy" overflow is a Bean Animal. Others work but when you follow the original design Bean's is the best solution.

To get a more precise adjustment you may want to look at putting in a gate valve instead of what is on there now.
