I had a sudden ammonia spike in my quarantine tank and lost 1 clown with no visible symptoms. My other clown is still alive but appears to have nasty burns. His back half colors have paled drastically and his back top fin is damaged. He hovers in one spot over décor while breathing heavily and he doesn't use his back half more than necessary. I'm guessing due to pain. I don't see visible gill inflammation and he's not laying on the bottom of the tank yet or resting on the décor, but I'm worried his gills might be damaged. I did a 50% water change, but is there anything I can do other than change the water?

Sounds like fish is in trouble. Without pics to see what it has, can be ammonia poisoning, brooklynella, amongst other possibilities

I noticed the damage earlier this morning and thats when I did a water change. It's 1pm and haven't seen him go further downhill yet.

Yesterday the clownfish was well colored, no fin tattering, and was acting normal. This was a sudden change overnight. I did confirm an ammonia spike right before I did the water change. 0E8532CE-6A96-4504-A1FC-07C29D4353B9.jpeg

Just checked again and now he's starting to sit on the bottom of the tank. I don't have high hopes that he's going to pull through.
