I've got several of these large tube critters in my 350 mixed reef. I'm assuming they're o.k. A little ugly, I'm hoping they're natural filters like sponges, but want to verify if I can. I hope the pictures are ok. IT's got two tubes that form a Y, They're clear or white. The end has an obvious hole. Grows in dark exposed spots of my tank. This is one of the larger ones, it's close to 1-2" if you include the tube extending out into the water. The two tubes seem to wrap around a soft tissue structure. I found one of these on the wall of my Sump. I thought it was a snail or something and grabbed it and it was completely soft almost leathery, not jelly-like like that of an anemone.
Here's what I hope are a couple better quality pictures of it. I didn't notice this before, but I see a bunch of tubes running off into the rocks on one of these two photos. There's also a second tube behind the primary one I got a pic of. YOu can sorta see it's tube sticking out.
My tank is 18 months old. Based on the amount of tubes hanging in the rocks it looks like these could potentially be all over. I'm hoping they're awesome filter feeders and will help me keep my tank cleaner? Thoughts? -- I also have no idea where they came from!
