Tunze MAR chaeto reactors

I have an older model of a chaeto reactor, one of the first ones out there.. It used to work great but for some reason, my chaeto always dies now. I've changed out out chaeto and messed around with the flow and lighting period but havent been able to figure it out.

I'm wondering if I should just ditch it and buy a Tunze MAR 3181 reactor.. maybe that will solve the problem, with better circulation? Has anyone used these Tunze reactors and got their chaeto melted/dead?

I had issues for awhile growing cheato I ended up dosing small amounts of iron after talking to some guys on another site and it helped me out. I have never tested for iron (I know thats bad) but every time I see it starting to thin or turn brown I just add a capful every week or two and its helped.
