I have an older model of a chaeto reactor, one of the first ones out there.. It used to work great but for some reason, my chaeto always dies now. I've changed out out chaeto and messed around with the flow and lighting period but havent been able to figure it out.

I'm wondering if I should just ditch it and buy a Tunze MAR 3181 reactor.. maybe that will solve the problem, with better circulation? Has anyone used these Tunze reactors and got their chaeto melted/dead?

I doubt it’s the reactor. Many people have chaeto die off due to lack of iron. If you do regular, decent water changes then that may not be the problem. What is your N and P?

No i dont do many water changes... too lazy. 1x per month. Everything seems fine but the chaeto.

whats a good iron supplement product to dose?

I don’t do chaeto, I grow GHA in a reactor so I’m not sure. I would recommend starting a thread “what’s a good iron test kit, and what do you dose?”

I have the Tunze reactor. I love it. Chaeto death not the fault of the reactor. I ordered chaeto online that was delivered a day late and was cooked in the heat. All of it dead and disintegrated. I put some Nogo in there and it did great (as a side note Nogo needs to be rubber banded up loosely to work). Put chaeto in there and it does awesome. The two together are perfect. Put the nogo on the bottom for best results or don't use it at all.

Do you have a picture of your harvest?

Not yet. It has only been a few weeks. It's thick enough where it stopped spinning today. I hit the feed button every day to stop the water flow. This brings the water down to sump level and condenses and slightly turns the algae when restarted. The light is really strong so the tumbling is not really needed. THe water is still circulating very well and I am not worried about clogging. I will update tomorrow.

I was just going through the spare parts list on Tunze site for Mar 3181 and 3182. What intrigues me is how come the O ring ( part no 5) dia is same for both models asuuming the 3182 is a bigger model with bigger dia acryclic tube.
Any thoughts? has anyone ordered a spare O ring or bothered to check the dia of 3182 model?
@Tunze can you shed some light?
Thanks
