Tupperware Canister Filter

I love it! That's exactly what I'm trying to do just on a bigger scale :) if I can get a watertight container it should work

You could always connect multiple smaller tupperwares in series if you cant find a watertight larger one. Personally I think you would struggle to find ones larger than 2L+.
Also be wary, the lower down the tupperware is the more pressure you put on the seals of the box, the higher, the less pressure. If it is at the same height or above the tank there will be very little pressure on the seals compared to if it's on the floor. Reduce your chances for leaks and hopefully increase lifespan of it.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll put it on the same desk and spray paint the sides black to keep light in :)

My 1st filter 20-25 yes ago was a tote like that, I then had a trashcan at one end. The trashcan I ziplocked some egg crate in to hold filter floss and it had holes at the bottom to drain into the tote. Forgot all about that till I saw this

How about a simple 5 gallon bucket filter:

I would but I always have problems on algae... I've found the only way to battle it is to grow it in one place :( GHA is a must in my tanks Idk why. That's why I'm so set on a fuge kinda thing.

well i didn’t mean you had to run it in that configuration you could put a light over it, remove the lid and grow chaeto/gha.

or daisy chain them as other have said

just meant instead of a tupperware container a 5 gallon bucket is cheap and reliable.

Ah, I see. Yeah that'd probably work. I could put a clear spot in the lid and make it watertight with silicone and I could even hide the five gallon bucket in an old bourbon barrel for aesthetic purposes. Keep it hidden.
