Hey so I already posted pics of my 53gal bowfront tank when I originally set up an account here on the Meet and Greet forum but I figured I'd start a thread here as well in order to document the progress and updates to my tank(s) so bear with me as there will be some repetition initially.

In the 53gal corner tank, I have as follows:

Fish -
  • Pearlscale Butterfly Fish (new as of 5/31/14)
  • Allardi Clownfish
  • Tuxedo Damsel
Inverts -
  • ~6" diameter Brittle Starfish
  • ~2" "normal" Starfish (not entirely sure what kind it is)
  • Extremely small Starfish (haven't seen it since day 1 but it's still cool)
  • Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
  • Assorted Blue Leg Hermit Crabs and Snails
Corals -
  • Large Gorgonian Seafan (since been fragged in two places as of 5/31/14)
  • Candy Cane Trumpet Coral
  • Anthelia Soft Coral
  • White Mushroom Poly
  • Two Ricordia Polyps
  • Paly Zoa Polyps
  • Devil's Hand Leather Coral
Other -
  • 60+ lbs of live rock
  • 1200 gph Marineland Maxi Jet Powerhead in circulation mode
  • 600 gbh Marineland Maxi Jet Powerhead in impeller/pump mode
  • ~10 gal Wet/Dry sump with active carbon and bioballs
  • Aqua Clear Aquatics MPS 75 Protein Skimmer
  • 2x AquaSun 18" LED light fixtures
  • 1x 18" custom made 440nm 250 lumen actinic/moon led fixture
  • ZooMed Digital Thermometer

I'm currently in the process of building a custom sump out of a 10gal tank connected to a 2.5gal refugium underneath. I'll take pics of the process as I go as well as the final product and upload them because I know that I have searched many times for a better sump idea than the one the tank currently has so hopefully my custom sump will help out other corner tank owners as well!

Looks good. I also agree I love the look of the bow tanks. What are the white sea fan looking things? Are they alive or just decoration? I like how it dd more interest/dimension to a new tank that doesn't have corals yet. I want to get a few for mine.

Custom Sump Build

So I recently overhauled my tank by building a customer sump out of a 10gal tank. The sump itself has two baffles and a wet/dry with filter media from the overflow. Inside the sump, I have a 200gph powerhead to prevent detritus from settling as well as a Marineland Marine Pro 100 skimmer. After the baffle/bubbletrap, I have a bag of active carbon before the return pump. I am currently in the process of adding a refugium out of a 2.5 gallon that I have as well. I know that this will do little to nothing as far as denitrification is concerned but it will mainly be used as a means to support a stable population of copepods/amphipods. Two smaller changes that I made are the downsizing of the amount of PVC in my tank from the return so it's much more aesthetically pleasing without all of that ugly white plastic! The other smaller change that I made was the re-arranging of the left side aquascaping of my tank and no it didn't take me 538345 hours like normal aquascaping changes and I like this new setup MUCH better as there is 2x as much room and better ledges/holes for coral placement! Pics are posted so enjoy and feel free to comment!
