hello, I am finally upgrading from my 75 gallon Red Sea reefer to a 108 gallon red reefer 525 xl. This will be my 2nd saltwater tank ever so I definitely need some advise and my 1st upgrade. My main concern is keeping the temperature stable for my live stock while I complete the tank transfer and keeping ammonia from spiking, any advise on these 2 things will be much appreciated.

I will list some other concerns other for you guys to please give me some advise on as well, thank you in advance. :-)

1 can I use my current sand and add some new one on top of the old one or should I get all new sand? I would prefer just keeping the old sand and not adding new one if possible the tank size difference is not that much. reefer 350 is 47 long while the 525 is 59 long.

2 if transferring the old sand, what is the bast way to do this without staring up too much crap and keeping my conchs and nassaraus snails save?

3 I plan on using the same live rock even though I am currently battling green hair algae and Byropsis and I'm on day 4 of a fluconazole treatment but I plan on finishing the full treatment before making the transfer. I am confident that the amount of live rock I have is enough for the new tank and I also have a marine pure block that has been in my sump for about 3 months now, should there be a need for new rock?

4 I currently dose 6 ml pf nopox with a dosing pump, should I continue to do so on the new tank from the start?

5 I have a reactor that is currently not in use, but I've used it with gfo and carbon which I have in hand, should I start off the new system with any type of media?

6 I have phosphate rx in hand, should I give the new system a dose to reduce po4 levels once things settle down after the transfer?

7 should I try to use as much of the old tank water as possible and if so, how do I keep it clean? or should I aim to start off with mainly new saltwater? I have an ro/di and plenty of salt to mix new water if needed.

I am sure that there are a lot more things that I should be asking but this is what jumped at me at the moment. Please feel free to add anything else that I should also focus on.

thank you!

I would get all new sand. forget live rock. I would use old tank water unless you have time curing rock

Hello
So not recommended using old sand?
As far as the rock goes you’re saying keep the old one? I do not want to try curing new rock nor have money to purchase all new rock to be honest.

Ok then keep old rock but definitely new sand. Get rid of all the detritus unless ur willing to clean it
