Alright, so I got a tiny zoa frag. Like 5 little heads. I had it acclimating in a bowl with two other small frags, and I heard my girlfriends little dogs collar hit the bowl and we both yelled at her and she left it alone. She was at the bowl for about 1 second. She came up with some water on her face.

What is the likely hood of any damage here?? If so, what are the symptoms?

very little concern.

It's hard to say if the pet was exposed to toxins or not. From what I've read though it is very dangerous to humans and pets alike. It wouldn't hurt to keep in eye on her for the next 24 hours. If you notice anything strange or out of the ordinary like swollen face I would contact a veterinarian and explain the situation and mention Paly-toxins to them.

#reefsquad Palytoxin symptoms?

Ive fragged a lot of zoas "without protection"

I doubt the dog will have any problems. Usually the toxin is a concern if the paly's or zoas were injured or the skin was broken in some way. if the dog was just sniffing the bowl or even just touching the water, I don't think you have to worry.

here is some reading link

Oh my! How is she doing now?

Hello everyone! Thank you for all of the quick answers. She is her regular old self still right now. Will continue watching, but I'd think I would see something at this point.

Just a very quick lapse of attention and it could've been much worse...

Different species will harbor more or less concentrations of Palytoxin. Most Zoanthus species carry minimal amounts and I wouldn't be concerned (you should still be careful, it's nasty stuff) but my only poisoning accidents have been with Palythoa grandis.

I'd just push fresh/dog water through. Her biggest concern is the sea salt which sounds minimal. Unfortunately I've witnessed an English Bull Dog with a severe case of kidney failure from sea water. I doubt that is the case and your pup should be fine. My hound was stung on the nose by an unidentified jelly fish in the Gulf of Mex. It burned her hair off to look like a "Hitler/Chap" statch. She recovered in weeks but the poison you've described is very different. I'm sure your pooch is fine.

Thank you! Luckily she is all good. Drinking water and eating fine and out of her mind as always.

The second I heard her collar hit the bowl I screamed as I realized what was in that bowl. I really just think she got her face wet and never even got a lick. Just a stupid moment to even have them on the ground with the dog in the house.

Just in case you all wanted to put a face with with story :)
