Hello everyone. I am moving to Chattanooga in about 3 weeks and was wondering what the average price people sell live rock for in the area.

Down here in Florida it goes for about 2 bucks a pound, less if you buy large quantities.
thanks

Tim

if i was buying from u id say the least amount poss.. jk
well if its established live rock u have to remember it doesnt need to cycle plus the criters on it are beneficial i paid 50 for 50 lbs but he had to get rid of it quick

i would bring as much as you can. the pet stores sell it for about 10 bucks a pound unless you can find some one who is shutting down their tank and need to sell it fast

Hey tim, The local stores in chattanooga are a bit pricey on the live rock ($12.99lb) . there is also the issue of what type of liverock you are looking for. the main store here sells florida aquacultured rock, it has lots of coraline and external growth. but it very dense and in my opinion not great biologically. There are acassional locals getting out that sell rock cheap. Just depends on how big a hurry your in. You need to get intouch with me when you get in town and we can discuss what options are out there. I can start watching for some liverock. how much are you looking for?

And at $2 a lb in Florida, you might think about bringing some up and selling it!!! :-)

I don't need any right now, but just a thought. I'd bring some with you since it's pretty pricey up here. Like Byan (Ironman) said, you might be able to find some up here from people getting out, but you sure can't beat $2 a lb!!!

I actually thought about that! 1.5 weeks till my move.

I got some that is not live anymore, but is nice! $2 lb.

Well overall I am not in any hurry to aquire more rock. I will be setting up my new 120 FOWLR before I set my reef tank back up. I "think" I have enough rock for the FOWLR now. I need to buy a good return pump and some other things before I need any more rock. BUT if i can pick it up a lot cheaper before I move I might as well.

Revh I'll definitely be in contact after I get settled in the new place. I hope to attend the April Meeting.

What part of Florida are you coming from?

I grew up in Daytona Beach, except some times in Jan & Feb I don't miss it. This is the south & Fla isn't really a southern state. So if you like the south you will like living here too.

We vacationed at a family beach house in daytona for 2 weeks each year. We did that for years, but it was getting so nasty we started going to destin.

I grew up here in south Florida but spent about 10 years outside of the state when I was in the Navy. Lived in SC, VA and NC at various times till I moved back. I only moved back because my family was still here. Now the family is gone and most of them are living in Chattanooga hence my move. Really looking forward to the change of pace my bro in law keeps telling me about :)

Very excited. Will be in Chattanooga on Wed night and Moving into my new rental on Igou gap road ( if anyone knows where that is.) on the 25th.

I picked up almost 200 lbs of base rock from a Dania supplier yesterday to use in my tanks once I am up there.

Igou gap is a good central location. heavy traffic cause you are right in the middle of Hamilton place mall and all the local shopping. Also only a few miles from the best reef store in the area. Let us know when you get here if you need any help

the guy had about 5 people breathing down his neck to rent the place. My sister was the 1st person he talked to and after talking to my sister and Bro in law he decided he wanted to rent to me.

OMG your not going to believe this, but I think I know exactly where your moving. Is it a house your renting? Yellow I believe? I saw a house for rent yesterday on that road.

Yes it's a house, but from the pics my sister sent me it's white. It was really nice having family in the area to do the legwork to find me a place. I looked at a bunch of pictures and talked to the owner etc.

So tell us alittle about you? Family? Hobbies? Name?
