I don't have a reliable local source for used equipment. I have not been satisfied with used woodworking equipment that I have purchased on ebay.. So I buy new from a very good store in Alpharetta.

I buy used when I can you see so many good deals on equipment. Many times people buy items and then something happens in their life and the hobby has to take a second place and so they drop our of the hobby. I feel it helps the seller and me to buy used items when it fits my needs.

For used aquariums scratches go unotice mostay when filled. Check the silicone and seams well. Is it peeling? Coming apart at all? Check it very well, if it's dirty it's going to be harder to check.

Good points on the silicone.

I buy used as long as it has no moving parts i.e. tanks, rocks, stand, RODI, etc... I like knowing exactly how much mileage each piece of equipment has on it. I do keep my own used stuff around for back up emergencies though.

I'll never buy a used heater or used sand.

One day a friend needed some clean water so I told him I could give him some. I keep my water in the 5 gallon jugs w/ a screw cap on em. He brought over identical jugs and said to just trade em out. I was like no way man. Sharing buckets is like sharing underwear. LOL
