I am in the process of a 65 gallon build. I was thinking of adding 2 "Smart" power strips to control the pumps and such. I could just say "Alexa turn off pumps 1,2 and 3 for 10 mins" when feeding or turn off aquarium when doing a water change.

Thoughts??

I am gonna try and do this also on my new build. I did get my Alexa setup and talking to the power strip. It works great so far.

I have custom LED lights.
2 clip one LED strips that run most of the day and 1, 1w LED set installed to the canopy of tank.

The 2 clip one power strips are conencted to a Smart plug and conencted to Alexa. I have then put them on Alexa timmers. I can get gradual light intensity increase and decrease throughout the day.
On top of that I can when ever I wan,t command Alexa to turn on or off a light.

I've used them for water changes. Move a Dot in my den (tank location) and then in the garage have the pump on a smart plug. Roll out the hose, get into position, say turn on water pump, and off it goes. Bob is your Uncle and water starts to flow. Then when I get close I say turn off water pump. Done.

I give my self a bit of room because, well, Alexa is still young and doesn't listen all of the time...

I don’t have a tank yet but my only issue with Alexa is if the tv is on or the dogs are barking (like, always) it can’t hear me. I love the idea of automating but I won’t be trusting Alexa with everything. If I say “turn off the water” and “she” doesn’t do it? It could be a big mess for me cause I would then get really flustered. Hubby already got in trouble for putting the FW tank light on a smart switch without telling me. I thought the bulbs burned out, every morning I turn it on myself on my way to the kitchen and one day....nothing! On off on off nothing it was dead! I was bringing it up on Amazon to order a new one when he confessed. To be honest he probably should have let me think it was broken and then quick taken it off the switch after I left for work. #doghouse LOL!
