Hey guys,

I have an old RO/DI system in a box in my basement (from Melev's Reef) which has sat unused for about six years. Within the next week or so I'm going to begin setting up my new reef tank. I wanted to know if you think it's safe to use the system. The system has been totally unused, but I admit that I do not think I ever fully drained it before putting it away, so water has been sitting in it for quite awhile (albeit in a dark container).

Of course I will order an entirely new set of filters, along with a new membrane, because those may be shot to hell.

I'd say if you're planning on replacing the filters your good to go. Just rinse everything and clean it up. Remember when replacing filters that you get ones that will work best with the water you have. Personally I suggest Spectrapure membranes and filters but most will work.

I will add you may need to replace any O rings if they have dried up and are cracking. Not expensive to do but check those before ordering filters so you don't have to order them separately.
