UV usefulness. .

It is odd that previously people would shield their halides to protect from UV, now some are adding it with no protection.

IMO it might do more harm then good.

It seems to me, but I'm not positive, that my Kessils would make the plastic zip-ties that I use near my tank brittle, I attribute that perhaps to the UV put out from the fixture.
I am also surprised how much the table has faded that the tank sat on. The table only gets direct light from the Kessil.

Something to consider.

Metal halide contains actual uv which is why you need a shield. All the aquarium LED fixtures do not.

UVs - under 400 nm, baaaaaaad. Violet - 400-430 nm yammy for corals.
In the end, all white, blue, royal blue and violet led are dangerous for human eye. A single 5500 k collimated white led is dangerous for human eye at less than 2 meters and exposure of 0,3 seconds. How many leds a fixture have?
This is the reason my lights are at water level, not collimated. Go near your tank with hanged fixtures and look upwards from the height of your kids. If see the bare leds.... it is each choice in the end.
